Teh Nostalgia

February 4, 1994... Hmm, it seems that aside from sports,a bombing of a mosque, and deaths of an artist, a man of science, and a cardinal, nothing really big happens on my birthday. (Although, I do have to say, to have at least one person from art, science and religion die on my birthday is a little interesting.) However the year 1994, held larger relevance to me.

My life REALLY started 1994, not just literally.

Although I was too young too comprehend it. One of my favorite shows ever was Disney's The Lion King. I remember actually sympathizing with Scar as he was pushed around by his brother, who had it all, but turning away, scared, when Scar pushed his brother down to his death.

By awesome coincidence, this was showed 1994.

That movie really left impressions on me. I realized that, had Mufasa been more genre-savvy, he would not have fallen for Scar's trap, and likewise, had Scar been a good ruler, there would be no dissent against him and Simba would have no need to return. I really believe that those ideas I got through watching the movie repetitively helped form who I am.

Sony's Playstations have really gone a long way, but my first memories of gaming were spent with the Play Station (1), released December 3, 1994. I can't remember how or when we got it, but it was just there, staying in the living room.

I remember the first real Role Playing Game I had - Megaman Legends. As a kid, the easy to understand philosophical parts really taught me the world wasn't just black and white. I was afraid whenever I got Megaman hit, jubilant whenever I defeated a boss, and just plain proud of myself when I learned how to read, just so I could understand the game.

There was Valkyrie Profile, a game that got me hooked into history and mythology while my peers were trapped in their unquestioning, blind faith in the world.

Final Fantasy 7, which taught me more about human nature than preparatory lessons could possibly teach.

Chrono Cross, which practically gave me a crash course on parallel worlds, and what will happen if you tamper with those, as well as giving me my first eerie mystery game.

I had very fond memories with that old machine. I remember hitting it sometimes to make it work. hiding candy inside the frame, and staying up late just to play.

At present, there're tons of new games and consoles, tons of new movies and animations with better graphics and whatnot. However, if I could decide which year I was born, I would change nothing. Long Live 1994.
